South Jersey (NJ- New Jersey): R&B Karate Training Dojo & Martial Arts Self Defense School Expands Kids (Boys & Girls) and Adult (Mens’S & Women’S) Karateclass Schedule!
R&B Karate Studio has increased its Martial Arts instruction schedule to keep up with high demand. New youth/ child karate classes for BOTH girls and boys have been added. With the R&B kids goals being: 1) building self-confidence, 2) discipline, and 3) self defense, parents are flocking to the school from South Jersey (NJ), Camden County , Burlington County , Gloucester County , and Philadelphia , PA.
R&B Martial Arts has also added select Adult (Male and Female combined) Karate classes. The goals of physical fitness, cardio improvement, self defense (men’s & women’s), and personal improvement are met and exceeded through both personal training and class periods.
The style is Isshinryu (Isshin-ryu) karate. Isshinryu originally comes from Okinawa ( Japan ) and is a combination of both Goju Ryu Karate and Shorin-Ryu Karate (although Isshinryu founder, Tatsuo Shmiabuku also trained in Uechi Ryu). Isshin-Ryu Karate was brought to America by US marines in the 1950’s. Similar in some ways to Shotakan (Shotokan) Karate, students are taught Japanese Karate terms, unlike in Taekwando Karate (Taekwondo), Tang Soo Do Karate, American Kenpo Karate (Kempo), and Kung Fu. In these styles, students learn Korean Karate & Chinese martial arts terms and techniques.
With the recent exposure of Brazilian jiu jitsu, specifically Gracie jiu jitsu, Hatian martial arts and Israeli Martial arts to the public eye, there has been an increase interest in mixed martial arts in the USA . Some of the more traditional styles such as the Chinese martial arts like kung fu or Gung fu have been replaced in interest by Krav Maga, Tai Boxing, (Thai boxing) and Russian martial arts. These “new” extreme martial arts often emphasize similar techniques as other traditional martial arts like wado kai ryu, Enshin do, Oyama, shito ryu, Kali, and fillipino martial arts.
Instructor Bill D’Zio has a background in Judo, Isshinryu Karate, Boxing and kickboxing, which he teaches at the school, as well as at the YMCA (YWCA). (Specifically the Mt. Laruel YMCA and Burlington YMCA [Riverfront YMCA]) While many martial arts schools do not allow cross training or mixed martial arts, Isshin-Ryu is one of the original mixed martial arts. It encompasses pressure points, aspects of breathing similar to yoga, Jiu jitsu and kubodo(weapons). The R&B Dojo is not a chain karate school like Tiger Schulman’s karate (Tiger Schulmann’s karate), and is not affiliated with any national or worldwide organization such as the ATA or WTA, USNKF.

R&B BOXING CLUB & KARATE TRAINING GYM CAPITALIZES ON HUGE SUCCESS OF LOCALLY TRAINED BOXERS AT MIDDLE ATLANTIC BOXING ASSOCIATION/USA BOXING EAST, CENTRAL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT.
The participants in the East Central Regional Tournament consisted of boxers from Southern New Jersey South Jersey) as well as the northeast US . All boxing was held at R&B Fitness and Karate in Pennsauken , New Jersey (NJ) (across from the former Pennsauken Mart on Old Haddonfield Road ). After the tournament, current R&B Boxing trainer and Former World Lightweight Boxing Champion, Ivan "Mighty" Robinson, was selected as the head coach of the Middle Atlantic Boxing Team’s head coach.
The R&B Boxing Team’s success was highlighted by William (Buddy) Hughs, age 19, who took home the Silver Medal in the 165 lb weight class. Hughs said, “Great tournament. R&B did a really nice job. Good Competitors, all around high quality boxing.”
R&B’s “prize student” was Jackie Davis (age 30), of Willingboro , NJ ( New Jersey ), who earned the Gold Medal at 154 lbs. Overpowering her opponents, Jackie was a force at the tournament, and said, “My opponent was challenging, she helped me take it to the next level. I hadn’t been challenged like that in a while. My first four rounder was fine.” She went on to credit R&B’s boxing training methods and programs, “My conditioning coach [Rosa D’Zio of R&B] had me in great shape”!
R&B’s boxing instruction, boxing lessons, and boxing training regimens have proven once again to produce REAL tournament champions from the South Jersey Boxing, Camden City Boxing, Camden County Boxing, Burlington County Boxing, Gloucester County Boxing, and Philadelphia Boxing communities!

2008 Middle Atlantic / USA Boxing Registration.
Weigh ins and Registration will be on December 16, 2007. All boxers and coachs that are interested in particpating in the event must weigh in that day
as well as have your 2008 registration and passbook finished. Will be 1:00pm - 3:00pm. We will be meeting at the Pennsuaken Boxing Club at 11 am and car pooling to the weigh in location.
The actual location of the 2008 Middle Atlantic boxing tournament has not yet been determined since amature boxing in PA may be suspended indefienetely due to rule infractions. In the event
that this occurs, R&B will be putting a bid to host the Middle Atlantic tournament in our South Jersey location. We may select to hold the boxing in Cherry Hill at a hotel or leverage our partnership with
the Mount Laurel YMCA. Since R&B offers Boxing classes at the YMCA facility, we will be looking to host a boxing show in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Other Possible locations that may be considered would be the
Maple Shade Quality Inn, the host hotel of Last years East Central Regional Tournament in conjuntion with R&B Fitness.
The tournament is set tennatively for Saturday January 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th.
The East Central Regional Tournament will be held in the South Atlantic Association this year.
